BGKeeper — Privacy Policy
BGKeeper is a board game companion app: it tracks your game collection, logs play sessions and shows statistics. This page explains what data the app handles, why, and who else sees it.
What we collect
- Account details. Your email address, and — if you sign in with Google — your display name and profile picture. You choose a username inside the app.
- Your content. Game collections (owned and wishlist), play sessions including the player names you type, scores, winners, dates and any notes, game groups, and your friends list.
- Profile picture. If you upload one, it is stored with your profile in our database, and cached on your phone.
- Privacy settings. Which of your statistics other users may see.
- BoardGameGeek username, if you choose to link a BGG account.
- Usage and diagnostics. Which screens are opened, and crash reports when the app fails. Collected in the released app only.
- Advertising identifier and ad interaction data, used to serve and measure ads.
Player names are data about other people
When you log a session you may type the names of people you played with. Please use first names or nicknames rather than anything that identifies someone beyond your own group. Those names are visible only to you, and to friends you have allowed to see your statistics.
Your BGG password is never sent to us
If you link a BoardGameGeek account so plays can sync to your BGG profile, those credentials are held in the device's encrypted storage (Android Keystore) and used only to talk to boardgamegeek.com. They are never transmitted to, or stored on, our servers.
Who else processes your data
- Google Firebase — authentication, database, push notifications, analytics and crash reporting.
- Google Play — the optional "Remove ads" purchase. Google Play handles the payment; we learn only that your Google account owns the purchase, never your payment details.
- Google AdMob — advertising. See How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services.
- BoardGameGeek — searches and game lookups are sent to their API; if you link an account, your plays are sent to your BGG profile.
- Board Game Quest — the news feed fetches their public RSS feed. Nothing about you is sent.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone else.
Advertising and your choices
The app is free and funded by ads. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland you are asked for consent before any ad is requested, through Google's certified consent platform. You can change that answer at any time in the app under Account → Privacy → Ad settings.
If you decline personalised ads you will still see ads, but they will not be based on your interests. You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your device's Android settings.
You can remove ads altogether with a one-time purchase under Account → Support → Remove ads.
Legal basis (GDPR)
- Contract — your account and the content you create; without it the app cannot work.
- Consent — personalised advertising, and analytics where consent is required. You may withdraw it at any time.
- Legitimate interests — crash reporting and keeping the service secure and working.
How long we keep it
Your account and content are kept until you delete your account. Deleting it removes your data from our database immediately. Crash reports and analytics are retained according to Google's own retention periods. Uninstalling the app does not delete your account.
Your rights
You can delete your account and everything in it yourself, at any time, in the app under Account → Support → Delete account. See Delete your account for what that removes, and how to ask for deletion if you cannot use the app.
You may also ask for a copy of your data, or ask us to correct it. Write to the contact address above and we will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority — in Croatia, the Agencija za zaštitu osobnih podataka (AZOP).
Children
BGKeeper is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data. Ads are limited to a maximum content rating suitable for teen audiences. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit. Your collection, wishlist, plays and achievements are protected by server-side rules, so other users see only what your privacy settings allow. Your basic profile — username, display name and profile picture — can be looked up by other signed-in BGKeeper users, which is how finding friends works.
Your email address is not stored on your profile and is never shown to other users. Someone who already knows your exact address can use it to find your account, but addresses cannot be listed or browsed. Games you have in progress are stored privately and can be read only by you.
No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top and, where the change requires it, ask for your consent again in the app.
